Before tackling the 2019 Pessac Leognan, you need to look back at the year 2018. For Bordeaux wines, 2018 was an exceptional year and produced expressive, intensely fruity and harmonious wines. With voluptuous, round and smooth tannins, these 2018 wines are simply sublime. While 2018 remains an exceptional year for Bordeaux wines, 2019 without being comparable, is nevertheless a splendid vintage with some masterpieces. All the vintages of French wines, Bordeaux wines and Pessac Leognan wines are available on this Pessac Leognan website.

Indeed, the weather conditions in 2019 were very favourable. First two dry months in February and March, followed by an ideal spring. Finally, a very dry July and an idyllic August, with regular light rainfall that prevented the vines from suffering. 2019 is therefore a perfectly balanced vintage, giving delectable wines. Even if the Merlot suffered from the drought in July and even if the quality is uneven because it depends on the date of harvest of the Cabernets, 2019 is a very good year for the red and white Pessac Leognan.

This article presents five excellent Pessac Leognan reds of 2019 and five magnificent 2019 Pessac Leognan whites classified in order of price and to be bought without delay, before stocks run out… But be careful, as delivery will not be possible before 2021 or even 2022. You will therefore have to wait before tasting these magnificent Pessac Leognan whites and reds of 2019.

La Réserve de Malartic white (2019 Pessac Leognan) 🍷🍷

† AOC Pessac-Leognan, second wine of Château Malartic-Lagravière, grand cru classé de Graves (about €20 per bottle)

¿ This 2019 Pessac Leognan white is firstly made from a blend of Sauvignon and Sémillon. It is then aged for 10 to 12 months in barrels. This Pessac Leognan white wine is very expressive, quite typical of the Sauvignon grape variety, with its blackcurrant budding side and its delicate menthol note. The balance and freshness of this Pessac Leognan white are remarkable. Absolutely excellent! This second wine from Malartic Lagraviere is a real success! 2019 is a vintage worthy of the greatest years.

Clos Marsalette white (2019 Pessac Leognan) 🍷🍷

† AOC Pessac Leognan (about 21€ per bottle)

¿ This blend of Sauvignon and Semillon offers a wonderfully aromatic palette and a particularly smooth mouthfeel. Unlike Château Haut-Bergey, this Clos Marsalette blanc is the archetype of Bordeaux blanc: the Sauvignon nose is lively and expressive and the palate is thirst-quenching, lemony, but also woody and vanilla-flavoured. This excellent 2019 Pessac Leognan is completely in the spirit of Pessac Leognan white wines, characterised by the minerality and freshness of the terroir. So, very good value for money for lovers of these whites, characteristic of the Pessac-Leognan appellation.

Esprit de Chevalier white (2019 Pessac Leognan) 🍷🍷

† AOC Pessac Leognan, second wine of Domaine de Chevalier, grand cru classé de Graves (about €21 per bottle)

¿ Even if the Domaine de Chevalier is successful and excellent, its second wine is almost better, as it is less woody, a little less full, but brings much more freshness. Its pale gold colour tinged with bright reflections gives way to a nose of citrus fruit and white flowers. The palate is rich, pulpy and lively. Tasty and very harmonious, this Esprit de Chevalier blanc is really delicious and unbeatable within the Pessac Leognan AOC in terms of quality/price ratio. This 2019 Pessac Leognan is to be bought with your eyes closed!

Château Haut Bergey white (2019 Pessac-Leognan, biodynamic) 🍷🍷🍷

† AOC Pessac-Leognan (about €27 per bottle)

¿ This Pessac Leognan white is a surprising wine, as it is extremely tasty and has a rare richness for a dry white wine. The length in the mouth is exceptional and the fruit density exceptionally powerful, with aromas of roasted peach and fresh pineapple. A pleasurable vintage, that evokes a great white Bordeaux, but with the fullness and smoothness of a Loire wine… This white 2019 Pessac Leognan goes against the archetype of dry white Bordeaux wines, but is a pleasure and a delight to taste!

Château Malartic-Lagravière white (2019 Pessac-Leognan) 🍷🍷🍷

† AOC Pessac Leognan, grand cru classé de Graves (about €46 per bottle)

¿ This blend of Sauvignon 76% and Semillon 24% is magnificent because it is extremely rich in exotic aromas. At first the nose reveals notes of citrus fruit and white flowers. Then the palate is fresh and very well-balanced, with a beautiful finish. The price of previous vintages was not very affordable, but the price of this one is almost reasonable, if you want to go a little crazy. Unlike Domaine de Chevalier, the first wine of the appellation is clearly superior to its second wine. This white 2019 Pessac Leognan is superb!
